The Call of the Wild | New Featurette & Trailer Reaction

January 29, 2020 By Tina Leave a Comment

Another literary classic is heading to the big screen this February!  As a huge Harrison Ford fan, I’m eager to see his return as a movie lead in the upcoming live action version of the classic, “The Call of the Wild.”   However, I am also reserving my final thoughts on the film until I’ve had the chance to see it in the theater.  My boys have read the book, but I confess I have yet to open the cover.  How about you?  Were you a fan of the Jack London novel published in 1903?  Are you curious to see how this legendary story will translate onto the big screen?

The Call of the Wild Takes Us On An Adventure

Twentieth Century Studios has taken on the task of bringing this beloved literary classic to life for our visualization.  In this adaptation of “The Call of the Wild,” audiences will be taken back to the days of the Gold Rush in the 1890s and follow a story of both ultimate survival and purpose.  They will follow the adventure of a big-hearted Saint Bernard named Buck as he dramatically goes from treasured domestic life in California to being the newest rookie on a mail delivery dog sled team in the Canadian Yukon.   Not only will we watch as Buck’s life and purpose transform, but we will have front row seats as the lives of both a man and his dog change as a result of this adventure.

Taking an Interesting Perspective

The movie was filmed as a live-action / animation hybrid.  So, what does this mean to us simple folk?  It means the story was created by using cutting edge visual effects and animation technology that ultimately give the animals in the film a sense of being photo-realistic and emotionally authentic.
Based on the trailer, I have to confess ~ the jury is still out on that one.  This is where I’m reserving my final thoughts on the film, though I’m honestly hoping it surprises me.

The Cast

Now, THIS is a cast I can support and enjoy.  “The Call of the Wild” has a long list of familiar names, starting it off with the likes of Harrison Ford, an icon and treasure in the film industry.  It also stars the talents of Omar Sy, Dan Stevens, Karen Gillan and Bradley Whitford.

Go Behind The Scenes

Prior to the movie’s release, we’ve been given an opportunity to sneak a behind-the-scenes glimpse with the “making-of” featurette “Adventure Companions.”  As a dog lover and owner of a beautiful Shetland sheepdog myself (and another sheltie who has since crossed the Rainbow Bridge), this little clip made my heart go pitter-patter.  Take a peek as Harrison Ford talks about life with his dogs and what he thinks this adventure of a film will communicate to its audience.
