Splitsville Orlando: The Perfect Gathering Place

September 28, 2018 By Tina Leave a Comment

Sometimes when you’re visiting Walt Disney World, it becomes necessary to break away from the character meet-and-greets and long attraction lines at the parks.  One popular Disney-escape door leads tons of families and Guests to Disney Springs where shopping and fun await.  In the middle of the newly re-imagined Disney Springs sits Splitsville ~ a luxury bowling alley that serves up a whole lot of food and excitement.

Disclaimer: We were provided complimentary bowling and food in exchange for our 100% honest and authentic reviews of our evening.

A group of us who live locally had a friend recently come into town for a multi-generational family vacation.  Before our friend’s entire flock of “baby ducks” arrived to takeover the resort, we had the opportunity to spend some time with her, her hubby and one of her daughters over at Disney Springs for a few hours to play catch up and kick off their vacation.

Splitsville at Disney Springs

Splitsville ended up being the perfect casual location for our brood to just hang out and shoot the breeze ~ all while munching on some good eats and knocking down…a few pins.  Located on the West Side portion of Disney Springs, Splitsville Orlando is literally 50,000 square feet of bowling, billiards, bars and live entertainment.  With six locations throughout the country, three of which are actually located here in Florida, Splitsville has become a very popular venue for family fun.

Our group of eight arrived around 7 PM and the energy inside was already contagious.  Upon our arrival, we were immediately approached by Daniel, the manager, and welcomed with open arms and a giant smile.  Those who were planning to bowl were fit and provided with bowling shoes and the collective crew was casually guided over to where we would be “planting” for the evening.

Now, I’ll willingly confess ~ I wasn’t bowling this go round due to an injury.  Daniel even offered to provide an “assistance device,” but it wasn’t going to happen for me that night.  However, I actually do love the sport and missed playing with my friends.

Once we were settled at our tables and those playing were ready to begin the first game, we were introduced to Bonnie, who would be taking care of our dining needs for the evening.  She, too, had the brightest smile on her face and was so attentive.  She answered any and every question we threw at her and made sure to double check with Daniel, the manager, if there was any further question on a matter (as you will see with the note on food allergies).

So, Let’s Talk About the Bowling

It’s one thing to go to a bowling alley, grab your shoes, find the right bowling ball to fit your fingers and then begin playing the game against each other.  Oh, the competition can be fierce.  Right?  Well, here at Splitsville in Orlando, the colors are brighter and the logos are cuter.  I mean – look at these guys!  Where else can you see Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse on a bowling ball?  Oh, and if you forgot a pair of socks, they have the most creative designs around and available for purchase.

Let’s talk about the menu!

Of course, one of the best things about spending the evening at Splitsville is the food.  People actually GO for the food!  Why the food?  Well, it’s not your standard bowling alley fare.  Sure – you’ll find burgers and nachos, but we’re talking about kicking all of that up a notch or two.  This is more luxury snacking than it is greasy plates.  When appetizers include Spicy Edamame, Impossible Sliders and Fig & Pig Flatbread, you know you’re dining and bowling in style.

Of course, you don’t have to go fancy with the apps.  We, in fact, indulged on chips and fries with queso and other standard toppings.  That was what put a smile on our face that night.

However, we didn’t stop there.  We also ordered a few different kinds of pizza, a plate of chicken wings and a ginormous salad (for our beautiful friend doing a fabulous job on her Keto regime).

Now, there is something on the menu that most people would NEVER think to be found at a bowling alley.  I mean, seriously ~ who would think that bowling and SUSHI would go together????

Yup!  We ordered that, too, and loved it!  Most of, if not the whole, group took on the Fantasy Roll with the kimchee sauce on the side (some of us just can’t handle the fire, my friends ~ and I willingly admit that’s me!).  I have to say that this option surprised me.  It was GOOD!!!!  It wasn’t fishy, wasn’t spicy….it was pretty much a perfect bite-sized portion (or two bites…it was a decent piece) of sushi.

Dessert ~ Sugar Rush, Anyone?

Oh….my….goodness!  I didn’t know this was coming out, to be honest.  I actually try not to do dessert all that often these days.  Needless to say, Splitsville showed us an amazing and creative assortment of treats that would make any Guest swoon.  From the seasonal pumpkin spice cupcake to the Ghirardelli Brownie a la Mode…oh, boy!  Yeah – sweet tooth activated!

FOOD ALLERGY NOTE:

While my family is usually the one with the food allergy requests (and we have successfully eaten here before with our son), this time around one of our friends was the Guest asking the questions.  She has some pretty significant and severe anaphylactic reactions to certain ingredients and this required some special attention from the manager.  I watched and listened carefully and closely as she discussed her situation with Daniel and they worked together to find some foods she could enjoy.  He was very attentive and even checked back a few times to make sure she was doing well once the food had arrived.  While we were all made aware of where her epinephrine auto-injectors were, we did NOT have to use them.  It was a successful food-allergy safe evening for our group!

More to it than just bowling and food

Splitsville boasts more than just the good eats and the ability to knock down some pins for a few hours!  There is a full bar on-site, billiards for those wanting to break from the lanes and live entertainment from time to time.  There never seems to be a dull moment and the energy, as noted above, is contagious.  It really is a place where you can spend the whole evening with friends and family and lose track of time because of how much fun you are having!

The Evening Scored a Perfect Game!

All in all, we spent a good few hours talking up a storm, laughing our heads off, filling up on delicious and quality food options and watching five out of the eight of us compete on the lanes.  In the end, it may have been a tie for first place, but we all won because it was a night filled with remarkable memories that we will carry with us for a long time.  It’s safe to say the evening itself bowled a perfect 300 game.
