The Six Month Overview and What’s on the Horizon

September 16, 2018 By Tina 32 Comments

Hey there, everyone!  Footprints in Pixie Dust may have been around for a few years, sure.  However, did you know that I’ve only been working it full-time for the last six months?  Yup!  Back in March, on my 45th birthday – to be exact, I made the life-changing decision and much-needed choice to leave ten to fifteen years of lucrative independent consultant work to make writing and this blog my full-time effort.

Over the last six months…

I have met so many amazing people and attended a vast number of fascinating events since that decision was made.  I’ve attended Disney-related opportunities, visited various theme parks and museums, and traveled to various parts of the country (and more!) as a guest of invited media, as well as part of the media itself.  I mean, these are things I could not have even dreamed of doing while working my old job 12 to 15 hours a day, nearly seven days a week.  Being that committed to success in a dead-end position made me moody, frustrated and feeling so underappreciated.  Now?  Well, now I’m doing something I love, enjoy and find fulfilling.  I could not be happier than a pig in mud!

As a child…

I wanted to be a screenwriter / director.  I loved writing plays, co-directing a troupe with my friends and getting a reaction out of an audience.  Inspiring people has ALWAYS made my heart happy.  Unfortunately, I scared myself somehow years ago and decided to fall back on something I knew I could do at least a little better than average.  I ended up studying music while in college, so I guess I still found a way to write creatively.  In time, however, life took me down a different path ~ marriage, moves, my amazing children and a workaholic personality that drove me into putting an insane amount of hours into my stay-at-home job.

I honestly lost myself and had no idea how to find my passion again….

Until six months ago.

Six Month Footprints in Pixie Dust Blog Overview: #blogreview #whatsonthehorizon #fpipd #footprintsinpixiedust #blog

Well – maybe a little more than six months ago.  It was at some point within the year, when we made another dramatic move, that I decided it was critical to make a change because I was literally beginning to die inside.  I knew Hubby and the kids were feeling it, too, but we were terrified to make such a drastic financial decision, especially right after another location change.

But then my health become priority.  By staying in that job, I was literally watching my soul die and my body suffer the results.  It was just time.

Soooo…Happy Birthday to me!

It was amazingly ironic that we chose my first day of “freedom” and the first day of doing what I love to do to be my 45th birthday.  It served as a milestone in more ways than one and it just seemed satisfyingly appropriate.

I began to write more ferociously and look for things to share.  I knew that my four pillars would be family, food allergies, travel and entertainment, so I began to look for opportunities that would build upon those.  I got on screening lists, wrote about our adventures over at Walt Disney World and shared stories about managing food allergies at home, during travel and with school.  I’ve been learning to find brands that fit my pillars and how to share what works with us with you.  I’ve obviously done better at some topics more than others, but I expect that will happen and go in spurts.  Over time, though, I have seen post counts go up and more of you begin to faithfully follow this journey.

Honestly ~ I don’t think you know how grateful I am to have you along on this adventure.  Sincerely….you’re all the best.

So, what’s new now?

Well, Footprints in Pixie Dust is beginning to branch out!   Not only does it have a presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest, but I just created a new YouTube channel!  It’s actually a few months old and we’re certainly looking to improve upon it as the days go by, but it’s there and I’m so excited!

What will you find on the FPIPD YouTube channel?

I plan on pushing some of our Facebook Lives over there for better visibility.  Various series that we do will find their way onto the channel, as well.  For instance, I’m currently working on more Dating Around World Showcase videos.  (Psst – Leaving Footprints in Mexico is already up there to watch!!).  As time goes on, I’ll create playlists, so that you can binge on favorite topics you wish to watch.

Any playlists to binge now?

Absolutely!  This is why I’m so excited!  So – here’s the deal.  I just recently attended a fabulous retreat with the most encouraging and powerful women.  I learned so much about audio and video (among other things!) during that Permission To Hustle cruise and it really got the wheels churning.

As soon as I returned home from my week long journey aboard the Carnival Paradise, I took the advice of Amiyrah Martin, a powerhouse in this industry, and created a series with some of my Facebook Live videos.

Some of you may remember this.  Back in May, Logan and I did a series for Food Allergy Awareness Month, going live every Friday morning for four weeks.  Those videos are now a playlist on my channel and ready for you to binge!!  So ~ if you are looking to watch how WE do food allergies in our household ~ with travel, at school and at home ~ be sure to watch it!  The four part series ends with a 20-30 minute video sharing our favorite tips!

Soooo….what are you waiting for?  Got food allergies?  Curious about food allergies?  Have questions?  Go check out the Facebook Live posts!  They are raw, real and ready!

DON’T MISS IT!!

In fact, if you enjoy following along on the blog, you’re going to love following along on YouTube.  So, in order to keep up with everything, be sure to subscribe to the channel!!  We would LOVE to have you join our video journey, as well as the adventures we share on our other platforms!

Are you getting our email newsletters??

Did you know that we have a weekly email that goes out every Thursday?  Yup!  It showcases some of the blog posts for the week, talks about upcoming events and more.  I look forward to the future of those emails because I hope to incorporate special additions for those who actively subscribe to the blog and find ways to connect with you, the audience, even more.

So many exciting things going on here!

I really hope you are enjoying the journey with us and are just as excited about the future of the blog.  It has been an exciting six months of full-time effort and I can’t wait to share with you what lies ahead ~ posts to include more Disney, Branson, movie reviews, food allergy experiences, restaurant reviews, product shares and now travel to the Western Caribbean.  Phew!  That’s a lot!  Please be sure to let me know if a post inspires you or speaks to you in some way.  I encourage you to like, comment and share!  If one of our adventures encourages you to take your own, please ~ let us know!!!  Like I said, inspiring people has always made my heart happy.

I can relate to the dying inside feeling a little bit. I recently left full-time, 8-5, work for that reason! Gonna give “doing my own thing” a shot and see what happens! Already feeling so much freer! So glad you seem to be enjoying your big life change, as well!
