I usually love it when a new trailer drops!!! It gives us a quick peak into what lies ahead and ignites the curiosity that future sneak peeks will ultimately fan. This time, we were given the teaser trailer for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Now, I heard rumors this was coming, but was never really sure when or what to think. So, the question at hand is ~ does this Maleficent teaser trailer show enough to get me excited?

New Maleficent Teaser Trailer Arrives
The upcoming movie, which is expected to arrive in theaters nationwide October 18, 2019, will be a sequel to the global box-office hit Maleficent. Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning return to their 2014 roles as the titled dark fairy and Princess Aurora, respectively. They will be joined in the film by such talent as Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sam Riley, Harris Dickinson, Ed Skrein, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville.
Wow – that’s quite a list of famous names!
When does this sequel take place?
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is a fantasy adventure that picks up several years after the setting of the 2014 film. In the initial film, we were exposed to the events that ultimately hardened the heart of Disney’s most notorious villain and drove her to curse Princess Aurora when she was an infant. In the upcoming film, we will further explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen. New alliances will be formed and the two will face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.
The film is directed by Joachim Rønning from a story by Linda Woolverton and a screenplay by Linda Woolverton, Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. The film’s producers include Joe Roth, Angelina Jolie and Duncan Henderson along with Matt Smith, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Michael Vieira serving as executive producers.

Now, what did I personally think of the teaser trailer?
To be blunt, I’m on the fence, people. I willingly admit that I wasn’t all that ecstatic with the re-imagining of the 2014 film at first. Jolie is not one of my favorite actresses for many reasons and the story itself…well, it’s honestly not my favorite Disney story. At the same time, I can’t deny that Angelina Jolie did something with that role that ultimately won me over. In the end, I was able to accept the live action telling with the creatively unique twist at the end.
However, I’m just not sure why they couldn’t leave it at that. Why do we NEED more to this story?
Some stories are just meant to be left alone. I can understand a backstory, but a continuation of a classic that people cherish the way it was originally told…yeah, not sure how this one is going to work out.
But only time will tell…so I hold final judgement until October.
