Angelina Jolie surprised me with her performance in the 2014 global box-office hit Maleficent and ultimately won me over. I actually appreciated what they did with the film and I grew to empathize with the character she played. However, I, among many others, was satisfied with that. I did not anticipate a follow up story coming. Sure enough, Disney took on the task of creating a new tale that elaborates on the relationship between the dark fairy Maleficent and the Princess Aurora. While we wait to see how this all fits together, take a sneak peek at the just released official trailer for the upcoming film, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

Official Trailer for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil
Maleficent and Aurora have developed a strong bond over the years and have enjoyed a good life. Their relationship, though born of heartbreak and revenge, was ultimately formed in love and eventually flourished. However, man and the fairies? Well, they simply could not rid themselves of the hatred they had developed for each other.
In the new film, Aurora is now an adult and the relationship between her and Prince Phillip has apparently taken shape. Their impending marriage is a cause for celebration and serves to unite their two worlds and kingdoms. However, when an unexpected encounter introduces a powerful new alliance, the relationship between Maleficent and Aurora is strained and they are pulled apart to opposing sides in a Great War. Their loyalties are tested and they are brought to question whether their relationship as “family” can truly survive.
Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning reprise their roles as the dark fairy and princess, respectively. The film also showcases such talent as Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sam Riley, Harris Dickinson, Ed Skrein, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville.
My Personal Thoughts on the Trailer
I’m still not sure I’m on the bandwagon with this one. As noted above, I was completely satisfied with how the story ended back in 2014, even after not being a huge fan of either Jolie or Fanning. Needless to say, the movie contains tons of action, deception, twists and magic.
Of course, enter Michele Pfieffer and we all obviously have reason to question her motives in the film. What is her goal? Why is she shutting Maleficent out of Aurora’s life? There is more to this story than meets the eye and, I have to confess, it does have me rather curious…but not overly eager. I remain a bit leery of where this story may take us ~ afraid of being disappointed.
Nonetheless, Disney does have a wonderful way of drawing us into the tale and giving us a reason to want to see where it goes. So, in that light, I can certainly hold final judgment until I’ve had the chance to see it.

What say you? I know many of you are huge Maleficent fans. Many of my friends are huge Maleficent fans. Does the thought of seeing Jolie portray this character once again on the big screen excite you? Does she do your Disney Villain justice? Are you looking forward to seeing what happens in this story?

I’m curious to see if they pull in any attributes from Serena Valentino’s Mistress of All Evil: A Tale of the Dark Fairy. I read a few of her villain books over the winter and they were fabulous!
Either way, a movie I’ll watch but probably wait until I can rent it or it’s on Disney Plus!
Oooh, that WOULD be interesting. I’m going to have to check this book out and watch the film with that in mind! Thanks for the tip! (PS – my fam is soooo pumped about Disney+!!)
The books are great and most are available on Amazon Kindle to borrow for free. 😉 Let me know if you like them!
We’re super excited for Disney+ too!!
