VISIT FLORIDA Shares Our Disney Food Allergy Story

November 18, 2018 By Tina 3 Comments

Who knew?  A short while ago, someone requested membership access to one of the Disney groups in which I’m involved.  Once approved, he began asking if there were any families in the group who have managed food allergies while visiting Orlando theme parks.  To my humble surprise, another member mentioned my name and the rest….is now recorded in VISIT FLORIDA® digital history!

VISIT FLORIDA SHARES OUR DISNEY FOOD ALLERGY STORY

**By the way, did you catch our video on how Walt Disney World managed food allergies during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party at Magic Kingdom this year??

I’ll keep this one short ~ mainly because I’m still trying to process this reality and work on a few other posts I can’t wait to share.  The story goes that a reporter by the name of Eric Mohrman joined one of the Disney groups on Facebook.  He indicated right off the bat that he had been approved by admin so that he could make a request.  He was looking for someone to interview who was familiar with managing food allergies at any or all of the theme parks located in Central Florida (and a little beyond).  A wonderful young lady by the name of Amanda jumped in and mentioned that this was an area in which yours truly was quite familiar.

Amanda ~ you are the sweetest!!!!   Thank you!!!

I was surprised and dazed that someone would make such a profound connection!  I mean, this IS one of the reasons I started writing about our experiences.  Right?  I guess I was just caught a little off guard.  Despite this, however, I immediately answered back on the thread that I would love to chat and Eric and I took the conversation to private messaging and emails.

Over the next week or so…

We got to know a little about each other.  Eric shared that his goal was to promote Florida tourism to families who may be hesitant or concerned about visiting any or all of the Orlando theme parks because of the dangers involved with food allergies.  He was writing the piece for VISIT FLORIDA, the Official Florida Tourism Industry Marketing Corporation.

Once comfortable…

Eric sent me a list of questions to answer related to food allergy travel and Central Florida.  He was very clear.  I was not obligated to answer any or all of them.  To be honest, however, the questions were quite EASY to answer and I had absolutely no problem sharing our detailed story.

In the end…

Eric put together this wonderful piece on how to visit Florida theme parks while managing potentially life-threatening dietary restrictions.  He includes great tips, references tremendous resources and incorporates our food allergy travel story to help illustrate his points.  I appreciate very much the fact that he highlights our very first trip to Walt Disney World and what it is that has kept us coming back!

Grateful for the Opportunity!

I’ll be completely honest with you.  It was such an honor to be interviewed for this piece!.  Promoting food allergy awareness has been a goal of mine with this blog and giving food allergy families a reason to smile and hope another.  The obvious hope for THIS particular piece is that food allergy families considering travel to Florida see that their needs are taken seriously here and that a successful trip with positive family memories CAN be made.

Do me a solid????  Please take a moment to give this informative, educational, encouraging and inspiring post a good read and then feel free to share!!!  It would be much appreciated, my friends!!!

Thanks, Eric, for telling our story!!!  (click link below)

This was such a helpful article. It’s hard to get a good, comprehensive guide to allergies in destination locations. Everyone just says they “will accommodate”.

Oh, my goodness! That made me smile ~ thank you so much. I wish I had had this kind of information when my son was little, so I’m happy to share our experiences so that others can “know before they go.” 😉
