Finding Ways to “Enjoy Life” with Food Allergy Friendly Snacks

October 24, 2018 By Tina 46 Comments

I have a very hungry 12 year old on my hands….constantly looking for a snack and entering the “bottomless pit” stage of life.  However, he also has severe, life-threatening food allergies.  That makes grabbing whatever he finds closest to him not an option.  As his mom, I’ve made it one of my missions in life to find creative food allergy friendly alternatives we can stockpile in our pantry or freezer.  That way, when his monstrous appetite comes roaring into the kitchen, he always has something safe and delicious to eat.  Enter Enjoy Life…

We were provided with complimentary products from Enjoy Life in exchange for sharing our honest and authentic opinion and promotion. This post also contains affiliate links. Please see my Disclosure policy for more information.

Finding Food Allergy Friendly Snacks

You would think having life-threatening allergies to some of the most common foods would leave one’s diet fairly restricted.  Right?  Well, when our son was younger, it was.  It was quite the task to find things that were safe and healthy and would put meat on his bones.  As he has grown and food allergies have become more prevalent, however, brands have become more much aware and more accommodating.

But what options are there?

One of the amazing brands we have come to rely upon for over a decade is Enjoy Life.  Founded in 2001, Enjoy Life set off on a mission to provide food allergy friendly products to those whose diets required certain restrictions.  Starting with a launch of twelve bakery items in 2002, the company has grown exponentially over the years and now produces over 70 different items for a variety of dietary restrictions and food allergies.

From chocolate bars and baking mixes to seed & fruit bags and cookies, Enjoy Life is now global and continues to find ways to provide for the food allergy and dietary restricted community.

Chatting with Enjoy Life

I have had the recent pleasure of chatting with a wonderful woman who works with Enjoy Life.  As a kind gesture, she took the time to send our son a fabulous box of goodies to enjoy.  How could we NOT share the unboxing?  You should have seen my son’s eyes light up when that package arrived!  In the video below, we show viewers just a few of the edible treasures Enjoy Life has to offer.

Psst – he devoured the Chocolate Marshmallow Grain & Seed bar from the box, as well as the Caramel Blondie Chewy Bar as soon as I gave him the green light!!!

Soooooo ~ if you happen to be a…

  • parent who just found out your child has severe food allergies…
  • child who craves chocolate, but can’t have dairy or peanuts…
  • teacher who is looking for a great alternative for a student in your classroom who has food allergies…
  • grandparent, aunt or uncle looking to stock up on special goodies for a grandchild, niece or nephew who has life-threatening dietary restrictions…
  • neighbor who wants to have something on hand for your child’s friend who has to carry an epinephrine auto-injector everywhere they go…
  • venue who wants food allergy families to feel safe in your establishment…
  • anyone interested in purchasing food allergy friendly products…

There ARE safe alternatives out there and they aren’t as difficult to find as you would think.  Enjoy Life can be found on the shelves of your grocer’s gluten-free or natural food aisles.  If, by chance, your local store does not carry this brand in stock, it’s easy to print this form from the brand’s website and submit it to the store manager.  While you’re waiting, you can always head over to the Enjoy Life website (www.enjoylifefoods.com), where you can shop for product, glean recipes, gather facts and read more about their mission as a company.

Listen, friends.  Food allergies are dangerous and cannot be treated flippantly.  The consequences of ingestion could be life-threatening.  It’s safe to say that nobody ~ NOBODY ~ wants to see a morsel of food alter the life of a child, teen, adult…or an entire family, for that matter.

I’m so grateful that companies, like Enjoy Life, are taking note and looking to provide safe alternatives for those in the food allergy community.  I’m beyond ecstatic that my son can enjoy a delicious chocolate bar, a healthy bag of food allergy safe trail mix, scrumptious cookies and more at the same time his brothers are enjoying a yummy snack of their own.

Let’s keep the hope alive and eat freely, shall we?

Disclaimer: I am not, by any means, a medical expert.  I would also never encourage the ingestion of foods that may be dangerous to one’s health.  I am just a mom dedicated to providing the best kind of life for her son who has severe, life-threatening food allergies.  These posts are written to provide you with our personal experience.  This way, you can take the information and make well-informed decisions of your own.  It is up to you to make the final decision as to whether a food is safe enough for you or for your family member.

Enjoy Life products are non-GMO, allergy friendly, gluten-free products made with all natural ingredients.   Once again, for more information about this brand, visit www.enjoylifefoods.com.

Love the video! I also like the idea of teachers having some of these snacks on hand. My husband teaches and whenever he does something for the kids, he tries hard to find something that will work for the kids with allergies – it would be nice for him to have something already purchased (or at least know this is a good option) so he’s not scrambling at the last minute.

It really is!!! I’m glad that was helpful, Pam!
A lot of food allergy families trust this brand, so it’s a great product to have available. Quick note – just make sure to keep it in the box / packaging and let the child actually take it out with his/her own washed hands. That helps to protect against cross contamination of any kind ~ which, as you can imagine, has a high potential in a classroom setting! Thanks for the read, Pam!!

These sound like great snacks to have around. We are teachers as well, and it does sound like a great idea to have these on hand because you really never know when you’ll need them. Often kids feel left out and isolated because of their allergies. These snacks would help with that.

It seriously would!! For a food allergy parent, to hear that a teacher took the time to find something already packaged, safe and known to the family as a trustworthy brand means the world to them. We would often have a plastic container at school with our son’s name on it that no one else could touch. Inside, it had snacks such as Enjoy Life products, from which he could grab when there was something being given he could not have. It was an amazing way to help him feel included. If there was a way teachers could provide this for kids or at least be open to this for food allergy families ~ what a difference it could make in schools!!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Dennis!!!! Feel free to keep the conversation going.

Thanks for being willing to share, Kirsten!! We actually had a plastic container in my son’s classroom that was filled with a stack of safe alternatives (including Enjoy Life products!). He was the only one allowed to enter it and it was a perfect solution for parties and special events (which we asked to be held in the cafeteria and not the classroom). I hope that helps at least a little! Thanks for the read!
