I have been staring at my computer screen for….oh, I don’t know…fifteen to thirty minutes in almost complete silence. Finding the words beyond what has already been shared on social media to explain what we just witnessed – without spoiling it for everyone – seems to be more difficult than I anticipated. I now know the answers to so many questions and can live with the ultimate outcome ~ but am I truly, truly….”satisfied” with the way Avengers: Endgame played out?

AVENGERS: ENDGAME
I put “satisfied” in quotation marks because that has been the word deemed most applicable by at least one of the famous actors featured when describing how fans should feel about the movie’s script. That’s what I went into the theater expecting – the question is whether or not that is how I came out.
Not unlike many, this is one of those moments my own family has been waiting for since our emotions were hijacked and ambushed at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. When we walked out of that theater nearly a year ago, we had no idea how long it would take to recover. I mean, tell me that wasn’t quite a blow we were all dealt! Right? We needed to know where this was going – what was going to happen to our favorite heroes. How were they going to fix this atrocity?
Now that I’ve had the opportunity to see an early screening of what is said to bring an epic end to this particular Marvel arc, I have answers to certain questions, curiosity about new things and peace about many others. However, while seeing this film didn’t leave me feeling the way I did at the end of its predecessor, I still found myself walking away from Avengers: Endgame saying “Hmmmm….I just saw another Marvel movie that yet again left me ‘still processing.'”
What we all know going in
We were left last year with Thanos having wiped out half of all existing life in the universe with a mere snap of his fingers. The Avengers had also been left fractured (what seemed like) beyond repair. However, the grave course of events set in motion by the balance-driven nemesis ultimately compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand. They have to see what they can do to fix this, to avenge their friends – whatever it takes. In what marks Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two dynamic films, “Avengers: Endgame” seeks to categorically satisfy and remedy all that was lost.
What I can tell you now
So – no spoilers. Right? Believe me when I say my brain is working overtime here. It’s not an easy task to keep myself quiet when there is so much I desperately want to share and discuss.
Let’s start with the fact that the movie is the longest of all twenty-two films. Lasting just over three hours, you definitely want to make sure you visit the restroom prior to the movie’s start (get it ALL out), gauge your fluid intake during the film and miss as little as possible. To be honest, though, leaving the theater didn’t even cross my mind. The movie is so captivating in its entirety that I found time passed by without my even realizing it. I was a bit surprised that neither I, nor the youngest (who accompanied me) left during the movie.
So, let’s talk about what the parents want to know….
There is violence – but tell me you didn’t expect that anyway. I mean, this is about a battle between good and evil, a struggle for ultimate survival. In this particular film, there are cut throats, beheadings and various amputations. There is cold-blooded slaying, as well. It’s not pretty and there are a few scenes that may gross a few people out.
There is profanity – perhaps a little more than I expected, but certainly less than certain rival films. In fact, I do not believe I heard the “f” word, but – yes – the “s” word is said a good handful of times, as is the “a” word and “son of a b…” Be warned that even our beloved superheroes who have kept a tight, moral tongue over the years will have a few things to say that might shock you.
There is no nudity. On a funny note, however, there is a reference made to someone’s backend. It’s actually rather hilarious when you hear it – the few times it’s actually referenced. It is attached to profanity…but I won’t lie…it was still…a little funny.
There is a little romance – but I refuse to say between whom. That’s a surprise and, I mean it, it’s just a little romance. It’s nothing that will require you to cover your children’s eyes (or yours, for that matter).
Last but not least, there – is – loss.
In fact, I cannot lie – there are a few surprises that may be jarring. You will need tissues and I do worry just a bit about littles who may have a favorite superhero in these films (there are many from which to choose, so I’m not worried about saying that). For some, the loss may be a little difficult to digest for a bit. Parents – just be prepared to discuss the topic if it arises. I’ll just leave it at that and the rest up to you.
Themes I found resonating in the movie
I’m not going to go into too much detail here. You’ll figure it all out as you sit there mesmerized by the genius of this piece. It’s amazing what the Russos fit into three hours of film and the impact made by bringing multiple story-lines together into one complete masterpiece.
Throughout the entire course of this epic piece, I found myself repeatedly finding these eight threads woven into the fabric of the script. I’m sure there are more strands, but these particulars stood out to me like “gems.”
I saw genuine and authentic conversation starters for…
- Friendship
- Family
- Sacrifice
- Trust
- Purpose
- Faith
- Persistence / Determination
- Team work
Yeah – that says it and, yes, we have seen these in other movies, as well. We just haven’t seen it played out quite like this or as exquisitely knit together.
Would I recommend seeing this movie?
Are you seriously kidding me? Even if I had a reason to say, “No,” nobody would listen to me!! This series has been a cinematic staple and cultural phenomenon that has brilliantly attracted fans from multiple generations. I mean, most of us have followed these heroes from their humble beginnings ~ some people even farther back! It would be downright cruel and foolish to say this isn’t good enough for the faithful to run out and go see.
It would also be a complete and utter lie!
I just have to warn you that it IS long and the loss IS felt dramatically throughout the theater. However, the relieving sigh that comes with the movie’s satisfactory ending will literally overcome you. The outcome will kickstart your breathing again. You will exhale and you will find satisfaction in how this was written, directed and brought to its conclusion. Of course, you will likely cry for more reasons than one, but, like I said earlier….just bring tissues – ’nuff said.
Again, with regard to littles – I don’t have the authority to tell a parent what to do. If you have been bringing them to see the Marvel movies all along – this should be no different. If you are selective about which Marvel movies they see, this one does have a great deal of violence, a good handful of profanity, dramatic loss and quite a bit of loud noise. You know your kids better than I do. (insert winkie eye)
My personal thoughts??
Okay – so I can’t get away from finishing this piece without sharing just a few personal thoughts. This is where opinion comes into play – so beware and take the following with a grain of salt (no worries – spoiler-free). It will be interesting to see if you feel the same way when you watch the film for yourself.
So…my thoughts – I was surprised by one character, frustrated by another, significantly disappointed in another and proud of quite a few of them. I thought the script was done masterfully and most loose ends were tied – even ones I didn’t know were loose! I felt they did a great job on Thanos’ story-line and brilliantly executed the powerful ending. However, I did find one or two holes that weren’t filled and – no matter what – I will never, ever be able to grasp or believe in the ability to…..
Oops – I got carried away there…..no spoilers, T! No spoilers!
So – was it as satisfying as I was led to believe it would be? While I’m still wrestling between satisfaction, withdrawal and pure amazement, in the end, I did find it the perfect way to bring this part of the saga to a close. I will miss this group of super-powered misfits, but I do look forward to what lies ahead in the MCU.

My wife and I are going to the Saturday matinee. I’ve been so excited since Infinity War! I’ve watched that one 3 times, and I can’t bear to watch it again (for a while!). I do understand there will be loss, and I’ll hopefully overcome it over a period of time (I Hope!).
When I watched the first Avengers movie, I was Team Hulk, all the way. Then, we watched all 3 Thor movies, and he took Hulk’s place. His journey in Infinity War, culminated with his entrance into Wakanda…I still get goosebumps over that scene!
I remember that scene vividly – very powerful entrance!! Loved it!! Thor will certainly grab your attention in this movie, as well. Enjoy the matinee with your wife on Saturday and thanks for the read!!!
I’m really hoping Hulk and Banner can agree to co-exist. I feel the big guy needs to suit up one more time, for one last SMASH!
LOL! I think that’s what a lot of people want to see ~ a co-existent Banner/Hulk. All I can say, Rog, is that I have a feeling you are really going to enjoy the movie. I don’t want to give any spoilers (that wouldn’t be fair to anyone else either), but you sound like a superfan ~ so I expect your eyes will be glued to the screen like mine were!
From the stellar reviews I’ve read (like yours!), I already know I’m going to love it! I’ve been “All in” since the first Avengers movie! I then went back and began watching the Iron Man movies, The Incredible Hulk, etc. I feel a connection to these movies, and, while I might be sad that the era has come to an end, a new one will dawn, and we’ll continue to enjoy more Marvel movies

How exciting! I know many people have plans to see the movie this weekend. I’ll be honest; I really don’t know what any of this is all about. But I’m happy for the people who are excited. It’s like when people are excited for me when I go to Disney, but they really have no idea why I’m so giddy. Or when my husband is excited for the next Star Wars movie. We all have our things we’re into!

My fiance is a big fan of Marvel. I’m normally the one asking questions because I’ve only seen maybe a fifth of the branching series! 🤣If I go, I’m probably just going to accept everything as is and hope I can follow along! I thought about sitting down and just watching the other movies until I realized that the list is long enough to have to scroll down a few seconds for! That’s a freakin’ commitment!

Great info…without being info! LOL. My whole family has watched it and they are dying to tell my Mother and myself about it. We are the only two people I think in town that have not watched it yet. Last night, they made me watch Dr. Strange as it was the only film I have not watched yet. I am planing a mother daughter night for my Mom and Myself this Thursday, so then all of my family can let out a collective sign of relief and talk about it! LOL

I got to see Endgame Sunday afternoon, in a packed out theater. The audience was so responsive and fun to engage with. I loved the movie! Definitely satisfying for me and and I felt it was a fitting conclusion to a masterful story.
