Ant-Man and The Wasp: Answering Three Important Questions

July 4, 2018 By Tina 2 Comments

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is a sweet reprieve from the intensity its predecessor brought to the screen.  Not that it isn’t packed with action and a story-line that will keep you engaged from beginning to end ~ that’s all there.  This film just adds a little something that keeps you less on the edge of your seat full of anxiety and more falling back into your seat laughing hysterically.  I think we were all due for some kicks and giggles.

Disclaimer: I was invited to a complimentary media screening of Ant-Man and The Wasp in exchange for my honest review of the film.  All opinions below are 100% mine and mine alone.

~ ANT-MAN AND THE WASP ~

Once again, the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings magic to the screen with its brilliance and energy.  In ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, we refocus our attention on Scott Lang and his struggle between the responsibilities of being a father and the consequences of his Super Hero actions in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR.  His relationship with Hope van Dyne and her father, Dr. Hank Pym, is, at best, rocky to start.  However, after some strange happenings, the two reluctantly reach out to him for help with their urgent mission to uncover secrets from the past.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Review: #AntManandTheWasp #Marvel #MarvelStudios #MCU #movie #moviereview #AntMan #Wasp

The movie in and of itself is fantastic.  It was brilliantly written and, as you will find after seeing it, its timing within the MCU is orchestrated beautifully.  My son and I were captivated and completely engaged the whole time, watching each scene unfold and ultimately pull everything together.  There is some language and obviously a good number of intense fight scenes.  However, after coming off of the tragedy that was AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, it almost seems benign.  (Though for those with littles, I would recommend finding a blog post geared towards fleshing these out a little more for you).

~ The Movie’s Main Theme ~

There is something about the movie that seemed constant to me – something that is central and desperately trying to stay together throughout the entire film.  That’s the entire idea of “family.”  We see Scott trying to keep his family union in tact.  We see the Pym/van Dyne family desperately try to reconnect.  There is even a portrait of family among Scott and his ex-con friends.  It can even be said that there is a strong family vibe within the villain’s story-line, as well.  All of these simply strengthen the concept that family is vital to our existence.

Of course, that doesn’t answer the questions swirling around in every Marvel fan’s head right now.  You need to know a few of the basics.  Is this movie funny or tragic?  Does it leave us relieved or with another hole in our gut?  Are any of our Marvel questions from the previous movie answered in this film?  Let’s take a closer look.

Does It Leave Us Laughing?

When you pair up Paul Rudd and Michael Peña, there is no telling where the comedy train is going to lead.  Both are, in their own right, hilarious.  Each comedian effortlessly and effectively delivers a routine that will have your sides in agony and I can nearly promise you your cheeks will hurt from all the smiling.  The movie brings a definite change-up from what we suffered a few months back and it is a true palate cleanser for those still tasting the salt poured into our recently inflicted cinematic wounds.

Does It Leave Us Stunned?

I’m not going to lie to you.  I mean, I’ll try to do my best without dropping any spoilers, but I have to be honest.  The movie is a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.  It is inevitably going to include something that leaves you speechless and with your jaw dropping to your knees.  Past mysteries are revealed.  Connections and relationships are uncovered…for the most part.  We begin to understand the placement of this movie within the entire MCU story-line.  Yeah – there will be some zingers in there.  Just hang tight through the movie.

Does It Answer Our Questions or Leave Us With More?

Yes and…..yes.  Just like I said above, it’s a Marvel movie, friends.  I will say this.  It DOES answer the question we have all had the last few months – where was Ant-Man and why was this movie, which takes place BEFORE AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, released AFTER it.  Trust me.  You will walk out of the theater having been educated.

However, you will also walk out of the theater with a few new questions – those of which I cannot share because it may very well spoil the movie for you.  I just don’t want to do that.  I like you all too much.  In any case, like I said, you find out the answer to the timing of the movie.  You will also find out more about what happened to Scott Lang after his stunt in Germany.  You will find answers to questions regarding Janet van Dyne.  Ghost’s backstory will be also revealed and, most importantly, you will find out how all of this leads us right into AVENGERS 4.

So……how does all that settle with you?  Ready to go see it now?  Ticket’s purchased yet?

OH – and one more thing….

Those end credit scenes.  There are two…..DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT SEEING THEM!!!
